bisacodyl suppository pediatric dose official prescribing information children

For constipation, typical rectal bisacodyl dosing is:
  • Age 6 to under 12 years: 5 mg rectally once daily. With a 10 mg suppository, this is one-half suppository.
  • Age 12 years and older: 10 mg rectally once daily.
  • Under 6 years: use only with direction from the child’s clinician. Product labeling differs, with some labels saying consult a doctor and others saying do not use.
It usually acts in 10 to 45 minutes. Do not use it daily for more than 5 days unless a clinician has advised it. See the DailyMed product labeling and NHS dosing guidance.
Avoid or seek prompt medical advice if there is severe abdominal pain, vomiting, bloating, rectal bleeding, or suspected bowel obstruction.
