Full Story Summary

Background / Recap from Book 1

In the first book (Must Date the Playboy), Victoria "Tori" Peige and the charming, irresistible playboy Zachary "Zach" Anderson entered into a fake/bet-based relationship that eventually turned real. However, their relationship was built on a foundation cracked by lies and deceit — and they ultimately paid the price for it.

Book 2: Must Hate the Playboy

The story picks up after their painful breakup. Tori and Zach's relationship ended badly — Zach left Tori alone in Mexico, and instead of talking things out, he wrote her a letter and simply walked away from the relationship. He made all the decisions on his own, concluded things easily, and let go — without even asking Tori what she wanted.
Tori is devastated and furious. She nurses a deep grudge against Zach:
"I hate him, so damn much! I hate him for leaving me alone in Mexico. I hate him for keeping me hanging and for writing that stupid letter. He didn't even bother to ask me what the hell I wanted! He just concluded things so easily. He simply gave up, let go, and left me with some other guy!"
Tori throws herself into moving on. She works hard at suppressing her feelings for Zach and tries to rebuild her life without him. She begins to accept the painful reality that Zach is gone for good and starts to open herself up to the possibility of living — and perhaps loving — without him.
Then Zach comes back.
Just as Tori is finally making peace with the idea of a Zach-free life, he reappears — and all the emotions she had locked away begin to resurface. The feelings she fought so hard to bury start creeping back, no matter how much she wills them not to.
This is the central conflict of the novel: Tori must hate the playboy — but hating him is far easier said than done when she's never truly stopped loving him.

Themes

  • Second chances — Can a broken relationship be rebuilt after betrayal and abandonment?
  • Pride vs. love — Tori's internal battle between her hurt pride and her lingering love for Zach.
  • Accountability — Zach must reckon with the consequences of his choices and fight to win Tori back.
  • Self-worth — Tori's journey of recognizing she deserves someone who fights for her, not someone who quietly walks away.

Resolution

Without spoiling the full ending outright: the novel follows Zach's attempts to make things right and Tori's struggle not to let her guard down again. True to the rom-com spirit of the series, the story builds toward a satisfying reconciliation — but only after both characters genuinely grow and confront the mistakes that tore them apart.

Is tori and zach back together

Based on what's known about Must Hate the Playboyyes, Tori and Zach do end up back together.
The entire story builds toward their reconciliation. The journey goes like this:
  • Zach comes back after leaving Tori in Mexico, realizing he made a huge mistake by walking away without fighting for their relationship.
  • Tori resists — she's hurt, angry, and has been working hard to move on. She doesn't want to let him back in easily.
  • Zach has to prove himself — unlike before, he can't just charm his way back. He has to show genuine change and accountability for abandoning her.
  • Tori's feelings resurface despite her best efforts to keep them buried. No matter how much she tells herself she hates him, the love never fully went away.
In true Pop Fiction/Wattpad romance fashion, the story ends with them reconciling and getting back together — but only after both characters have grown. Zach learns that love requires fighting for the person you care about, and Tori learns to let her guard down and trust again.
Their relationship in Book 2 is more mature and honest than what they had in Book 1, because this time it's built without pretense or games — just two people choosing each other genuinely.
