Roko tablet loperamide dosage official India package insert

Roko is usually loperamide 2 mg for short-term watery diarrhea.
Adults and children age 12+
  • Take 2 capsules/tablets (4 mg) initially
  • Then 1 capsule/tablet (2 mg) after each loose stool
  • Do not use it for more than 48 hours without medical advice.
  • Follow the maximum dose printed on your specific pack. Many prescription references permit up to 16 mg/day (8 x 2 mg), but do not exceed the pack limit or take extra doses. The loperamide prescribing information gives 4 mg initially, then 2 mg after each unformed stool.
Do not take Roko without medical advice if you have fever, blood or mucus in stool, severe abdominal pain/swelling, suspected food poisoning or antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or diarrhea lasting over 2 days. Focus on ORS fluids to prevent dehydration.
It is generally not suitable for children under 12 unless a clinician specifically prescribes it. High doses can cause dangerous heart-rhythm problems. The pharmacology text also advises stopping it if acute diarrhea has not improved within 48 hours - Goodman & Gilman’s The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, section “Antimotility and Antisecretory Agents.”
